Halloween has come and gone
and the dextrosic damage has been contained. All had a great time, at Anton's and Annika's school and at the SF Waldorf School which had brilliantly put together a fairy walk with live scenes from Rumpelstielzchen, Rapunzel, Heinzelmaennchen and many more.

New pictures online!
Spring is over, summer is here! The US celebrated fourth of July, San Francisco celebrated fourth of July in the fog. The rockets were most impressive when they exploded close to the ground. Anton loved it, Annika did too, but needed to view the fireworks from the safety of the car. What were the highlights of June? Every single moment of course, so I had to pick one set to be included directly in the blog - the spring trip to Camp Mather, that I didn't go to. The full set of June pictures can be found here.

New Pictures Of a Not So New Guy
The new pictures from my 40th birthday are out! Thanks everybody who came for turning this into such a fun event! The lake was a wonderful backdrop, the grill and Heike were smokin' , and everything was California-style easy-going, just what a landfallen pirate needed - arrhh! The amazingest feat however was pulled by my mom and my brother who managed to find their way from Vienna, Austria to the bottom end of my sleeping back only to pour bubbly over it and disturb my beer-inspired semi-consciousness with happy birthdays! 6,000 miles, that 125 miles for every year, I'd say my folks did go the extra mile for me...

They are all gone...!
Luckily only, for just a week, camping at Camp Mather. I thought I'd get do lots of things that are difficult to otherwise be included in a busy father's week - climbing, surfing, sailing (arrh...!), and, oh yes, this work thingie (I am ready for the 4-Hour Workweek!). Some of it happened, and lots more too. Nolan and I went to see the new Indiana Jones yesterday, entertaining but otherwise probably not award-prone. These days it's hard to portray the Russians as really evil, and I guess I have grown up too since Indy I.

First, about AJ Madison: As it goes with these big web stores, there is not much human interaction. I did call them though (in the middle of the night) and their support staff were friendly, helpful and to the point. The whole transaction was incredibly smooth, they updated with emails about status and arrival date, and although I had chosen free 4-6 week shipping, to my delight the washer arrived only 2 weeks later. The freighter, Yellow, was also extremely professional, which is not always the case.
The washer itself: I am from Europe, and Bosch is a brand that has retained a good name and stands for high quality. Evidently, they're not about to tarnish this reputation with their US line of washers. This thing just works. It's huge, it's a very satisfactory to unpack and see the arrow for your model to the very left of the energy efficiency tag, I have read complaints on the web about moving across the floor during spinning, that's because these dodos forgot to remove the transport bolts despite the big warning labels all over. Mine spins at 1100 RPM (cuts down drying time from 70 to 30 minutes!!) and doesn't move a mil, and my floor is not very good. The amount of programs offered is more than adequate, I like to XXtra-Sanitary program that heats the water quickly to kill the germs without damaging sensitive garments. The laundry is clean and almost dry when it's done. If you want your laundry done in 20 minutes and don't care so much about cleanliness look elsewhere. If on the other hand you don't mind waiting an hour (or even 2 for XXtra-Sanitary program) there's no way past the Nexxt series. In Austria, they all take that long, and no, you can't have both.
